About The Hub
The Hub started life in 2000 as a black-and-white, four page leaflet about community affairs. Over time editorial staff, format, and funding have changed, but the publication still maintains the same goals of informing and entertaining the local community.
The content of the Hub has always been provided by local individuals and groups. We're always on the look-out for for interesting articles and images for future publications.
Most recently, the editorial work involved in producing The Hub was taken over by South Lakes Development Trust, a not-for-profit group whose activities range from providing retail advice and training to small businesses all the way up to large-scale public works projects. Since taking over The Hub, we have moved to a full-colour production, secured long-term funding for the continuing production and distribution and, of course, set up this site!
We hope to continue to drive the development of the Hub into a really useful resource for local people to be informed about local affairs and, perhaps more importantly, to have their say about what is going on. We'd love to move to a 12-page format, and are looking into including a limited amount of paid advertising space to cover some of the printing and distribution costs and to allow us to further improve both the print publication and this website.
