Blues News
Policing priorities over the winter months have remained virtually the same with our focus and effort being concentrated on the following:
- Burglary of people's homes
- Violent crime
- Class A drug abuse
- Anti-Social Behaviour
- Youth Disorder
- Criminal damage
- Theft of Motor Vehicles
Government direction now demands that much emphasis is placed on prevention as well as detection, and we have, as an area and as a local Policing team, certain targets in the above areas of crime we need to aim for. I'm sure other individuals working in the public sector will be familiar with such demands. Such targets are assessed on a monthly basis and scrutinised in greater depth every 4 months.
As your Local Policing Team we are performing well above force & national standards. For example, there have been no house burglaries in the months of December & January. Commercial burglaries are occurring, but these are mainly confined to shed break-ins. A recent success has been the arrest of an individual for a £10,000 clothing theft after breaking into a property.
Violent crime is down, born out of much good work done with local pubs and clubs, and an adoption of a strict policy where people who misbehave in such premises will generally end up on the bar watch scheme which will prevent them entering a pub locally for a minimum period of 6 months.
A recently reported robbery near Booths in Windermere has resulted in 2 men from outside the local area being arrested.
Recently 3 local youths have being subject to strict curfew conditions from 7pm—7am pending court appearances for numerous offences. Other individuals are being closely watched and behaviour challenged. Parents and guardians obviously play a key role in taking responsibility for knowing where their child is and what they are up to.
The theft of motor vehicles is relatively low in our area, only 8 being reported in the period April '06 to February '07.
As I always say, we live in what I think is the most beautiful area of the country and although we suffer some crime our levels are way below those experienced elsewhere. We should be grateful for such, and I assure you that my staff will endeavor to keep it that way.
