South Lakes Development Trust (SLDT) is a not-for-profit company based in Windermere originally formed to manage the distribution of the £1million NWDA funding awarded to the area under the Lakes Market Towns Initiative. We now provide a wide range of services to the community, delivering tangible benefits aimed at enhancing our local economy and improving skills and career opportunities.

The importance of empowering communities to take on more local responsibility is gaining more recognition in both local and national government. Because of our status as a "social enterprise", we can identify and attract funding that would not otherwise be available for investment in our community and are able to respond quickly and flexibly to maximise the benefits that such funding can bring.

Because of our status we have members rather than shareholders, and membership is free. Members are able to vote at AGM's and will play an increasingly important role in guiding the company to meet the needs of our community. Members also receive regular information about the wide range of activities that are being undertaken.
