Age Concern gets new Community Development Officer

My name is Jane Wrightson and I am the new Community Development Officer. I've been with Age Concern in Windermere and Ambleside for 6 years now as the Welfare Benefits Adviser, so you may well have seen me around!

The aim of the Community Development Project is to liaise with groups and people over 55 within the area to develop an understanding of community support and whether there are any gaps in provision.

As a part of my ongoing work with Age Concern in the Windermere area I have set up a drop in surgery at the Marchesi centre on the 3rd Monday of every month, from 1.30pm - 3pm. This will be for anyone over the age of 55 or the carer of anyone over 55 to come for advice and information. I am also in the process of setting up a Footcare Service at the Marchesi Centre, which will be nailcutting only, so I will keep you informed as to progress with that.

I would be interested to hear of your experiences of the services available in your area and if you have any suggestions for improvements or additions to those services. I have also been contacting groups connected with older people to make myself known to everyone, so if you belong to such a group please let me know.
