We all like to shop local, but sometimes the occasion can be a bit, err... demoralising. Tatty canopies, worn-out graphics and cluttered window-displays can all make local shopping a less than satisfactory experience.

South Lakes Development Trust is giving local independent retailers 50% grants towards the cost of a shopfront makeover. The money can create a pin-sharp new look that can boost business, make the village look smarter — and give you a lift when you shop!

So, would you like to see your favourite shop looking as well turned-out as it should do? Then tell them about it! Give them a gentle nudge, put this article on their counter — or simply say you'll spend more if they take the plunge!
