New initiative from Age Concern South Lakeland

Age Concern South Lakeland have a new project for the whole of South Lakeland for the next five years and it is called BUILDING BRIDGES.

The aim of the project is to contact those people who are socially isolated but who would like to socialise more in their local community, but who may not have the confidence to look for a local social or interest group and go along there on their own.

We hope to get referrals from Social Workers, Community Nurses and our own staff who work in the community and use a combination of volunteers and members of Age Concern Staff to get to know the client and go along with them initially to the chosen group until the client has enough confidence to go alone. This is not a befriending service as it will be a short term intervention by Age Concern to enable the client to rejoin the community.

If you would like to discuss this project or a possible referral (with the client's permission please) then call our HELPLINE on 01539 728180.
