Comments under the "Highways issues" category
- Motorists should not be dictated to with regard to speed limits - 'driving by numbers' gives a false sense of safety - the very thing that the authorities think but are not encouraging. Respond
- The roads need re-surfacing. The pot holes in the area are huge. Respond
- Parking should be free to local residents. Highways - better signing on the new roundabout at the top of Crescent Road. Bring back road sweepers and drain cleaners. Empty public bins more often. Trains - better connection between main line trains at Oxenholme and local line to Windermere. Respond
- Postbox/suggestion box/weekly surgery for the highways steward/lengths man. Respond
- Zebra crossing at Bowness. Suggest opposite the Royalty. Crossing i.e Pelican on Crescent Road too sharp a sloe, also no bleeps for the poor sighted. Respond
- The local roads are full of potholes and in desperate need of resurfacing. Respond
- Our road surfaces are poor with many potholes. The parking spaces aren't enough. The train and bus times don’t co-ordinate, The community line could be a winner. I would still prefer to live here than any where else. Respond
- When resurfacing roads - could quite surface be used? Too many road signs around - if you see lots of signs you ignore all of them. Respond
- Zebra crossing in Windermere don't pip/beep now. All the blind people have trouble. I have shown several off them across. Also the staff at Scope have seen them across. Why don't they pip? Respond
- Parking of large flower lorries when offloading. These lorries need to be adapted so that they can deliver flowers on to the pavement side rather than opening on to the road (or from the back). Very dangerous to passing traffic. Respond
- The very poor state of Cumbria's roads in general is certainly reflected in our area. I can't think that visitors are approving of the mess (New Road for example). Where white lines are not put in place quickly after new surfacing or not reviewed when they've become invisible - it is dangerous many motorists appear disorientated without white lines! Respond
- Troutbeck Bridge needs to stay at 30 mph and have speed camera's before someone is killed. Ings has one and doesn't have a school we have more accidents and need one! Respond
- Need a lengthsman with all the little lanes we have in the area. A section should be kept for business peoples car parking. Trains at Oxenhomle should be better times with the local line. Respond
- No more double yellow lines. Keep plenty of free parking. Develop existing car parks. Make sure all new developments in traffic lights and roundabouts are well advertised. Advertise the use of station by tourists. Respond
- Safe crossing areas for school children, Park Road, Park Avenue, Fire Station area. Parking on corners of roads at busy junctions. Priority at new roundabout must be given to the Kendal side. Lights at Trout beck Bridge should be timed for busy periods to get traffic away. Respond
- There should be a by-law to stop selling in lay-byes on A591 from Ings to Grasmere. This would stop the eye sore of cars being put up for sale on them. But not stop the snack-van at Staveley and the Ice Cream man on the view point on Rayrigg's Road. Respond
- Signs need to be cleaned and corrected. Who knows where 'Lakes Peninsulas' are?? Respond
- Footpaths along 'A' roads used by walkers. Respond
- Transport - Kendal to Keswick cycle way - what happened to that. A591 a danger for cyclists. Respond
- Extra calming measures on Droomer Estate. Respond
- New road top side of information centre to take traffic to and from Booths. Relieving the need for traffic to come through the village i.e new roundabout. Respond
- Road sign needed to say there is a roundabout at 'The tree' in Bowness (after Tesco). Respond
- Resite mini roundabout at Rayrigg Road/A591 Junction. Respond
- We need a roundabout on the A591. Vans should be fined if they park on pavements. A smooth, quiet road surface is needed on main roads through villages. Respond
- Windermere needs a by-pas to help with the traffic problems. Respond
- Buses are too expensive for family use - visitors or locals. Gullies (!) are not cleaned properly. A very large number of gullies down Lake Road between Brook Road and Helm Road are usually blocked - even just after clearing. Also gullies out Costa Coffee and Stags Hotel. Respond
- Troutbeck Bridge - main school drive a disgrace, potholes etc. Buses should not be using private road. Respond
- Make footways for walking on 'A' roads where speed limit is 60mph. Respond
- The road drains need cleaning out regularly. The local roads e.g Queens Drive are not in good order. Respond
- Environment - each year 600,000 cubic metres of untreated sewage and water are discharged into Bowness Bay. No more houses/hotel building should be permitted until this is solved. Respond
