Tuesday September 15th will see the public launch of the Community Plan and I extend an open invitation to you all to attend the event which will take place at The Hydro, Bowness commencing 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start.

The Plan prioritises issues that can make living in our community an

even more pleasurable experience and identifies partner organisations with whom we will need to work to see the actions delivered.

In some cases the answers lie within our own community and I hope that the evening will lead to constructive discussion about how we can all play a part in achieving the aims of the Plan.

I look forward to seeing you on the 15th September.

Dear Editor,

as Vice President of Windermere and Ambleside Lions club I was invited to attend a rehersal at Peat Lane House, Peat Lane, Kendal. Some of the residents have organised themselves into a Concert Troupe and with the help of The Sunbeams Trust they are off to St Martins in London to give their performance.

To be honest I expected to stay for a polite 20 minutes and them make the proverbial sharp exit, after over an hour I was still there being thoroughly entertained. some of the acts on Britains Got Talent and the X Factor are no where near as good.

Early on in the rehearsal there was some discussion as to how to let the blind keyboard player know when to stop, someone suggested they could tip him the wink, the laughter carried on from there really.

Trouble with the mic. didn't prevent the rendition of 'Jake the Peg' going on without a word being missed. 'What a Wonderful World' was great as were various medleys. The professional / volunteer musicians were very good especially the keyboard player - brilliant solo performance. We finished up with 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'.

My Lions Club has helped with the cost of the trip to London but a bit more assistance is needed.

Anthony Dean of Threshers writes in to report mysterious happenings outside his shop on Crescent Road Windermere: "I have begun to wonder if there is a Bermuda Triangle effect outside my shop. People are having problems with their central locking and car alarm systems when they park in the bays from my shop to the traffic lights."

Remote key fobs are not working as they should, so Anthony has been helping out: “I have helped quite a lot of people get into their cars and I’m sure Motor World has seen a huge increase in key fob battery sales!”

Over the August bank holiday this year a number of families from our twin town of Diessen will be visiting to experience the attractions of Lakeland at its busiest time. The highlight will be a visit to Grasmere Sports to enjoy the fun and spectacle of traditional Cumbrian sports and country pursuits. A Twinning ‘Hot-Pot’ supper is being organised at The Burnside Hotel on November 18 at 6.30pm, to include a presentation on the history and community of Bavaria.
